4ZZZ launched its glorious tradition of counting down listeners' 100 favourite songs on New Year's Day 1977. More than 10 years later, 2JJJ in Sydney (which employed many ex-Zed staff) began conducting its own Hot 100. Because 4ZZZ held the rights to the name Hot 100, there was a little bit of legal biffo when TripleJ became a national broadcaster, so they changed the name of their survey to the "Hottest 100".
“AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath; if any of those bands give you the tingles then Former Angels is the right fit for you” – hhhhappy
In the spirit of the classics, FORMER ANGELS are an all-out rock band, tried and true. Crunching riffs, blazing solos, decadent four-part vocal harmonies and a constant rhythmic swagger – it’s all here in spades. Live, this four-headed beast takes on another form again; one full of the vitality and energy that result in outbreaks of moshing and dancing (and that’s just on stage!). It’s truly the way rock’n’roll was meant to be – played loud, drenched in sweat and beer.
Formed in early 2015 from the ashes of countless local bands, the first year of existence for FORMER ANGELS saw the band whip crowds into frenzies across their hometown of Brisbane, and gigs across Lismore, Byron Bay, Newcastle and Sydney (including a support slot for party rockers THE LAZYS) spread the Former Angels classic rock gospel to hordes of new fans. The release of debut single FAR AWAY STAR garnered attention and acclaim including a feature on blogs hhhhappy, Emerging Indie Bands (coming in at number 14 on their end of year list) and DoYouLikeMusic (featured as Single of the Day), plus airplay across Australian community radio and the Netherlands’ IndieXL where it spent four weeks in the charts. Not one to rest on their laurels, Former Angels raced backed into the studio to plot a new single, a new tour, and an even bigger approach to their already awe-inspiring spectacle of a live show.
“Far Away Star sounds as fresh as Highway to Hell and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath time-warped” – Emerging Indie Bands
