Around 1998 4ZZZ, 4MBS, and Family Radio started broadcasting from the one installation at Mt Coot-tha. Prior to this 4MBS and Family Radio had merely leased land beside 4ZZZ but then Brisbane City Council decided that having three transmission towers and huts in the one place was an eyesore and encouraged the three radio stations to share facilities. This resulted in the three radio stations developing a company called Broadcasting Park to negotiate with the Council. This company consisted of three shares, one owned by each member station.
Go Go Fish
.......Go Go Fish are now a four-piece band from Brisbane who make unnecessarily verbose garage pop on a cheap guitar with catchy boy/girl vocals.
Following the release of their self-recorded debut EP Grande Velour, singer/guitarist Scott Mercer and drummer Ash Shanahan played a summer of shows as a lean, noisy two-piece before deciding to try out some bass players in an effort to capture that 'bom, bom-bom. bom bom ba-bom ba-bom, bom' sound that had thus far eluded them. Torn between the awesomnul chops of Murray Bowler and the undeniable raditude of Angela Hibbard, both were brought on board to complete the new line-up with Bowler on bass and Hibbard on backing vocals, tambourine, cowbell and 1987 Casio CT-360 keyboard.
After a long period of bedroom jamming (and still hunted by extraterrestrial forces unseen), the band now stand poised to claim their position as Brisbane's preeminent supernatural crime-fighting team and sometime indie rock combo with a sound that recalls the best bits of garage pop from the '60s and '90s thrown into a blender, ingested, regurgitated and then poured out the window onto the veggie patch. Assuming their new secret identities Captain Kitty, Princess Petal Blossom, Mystery Man and The Human Theremin, they are...GO GO FISH.
Debut EP Grande Velour now available for free on Bandcamp.
