4ZZZ launched its glorious tradition of counting down listeners' 100 favourite songs on New Year's Day 1977. More than 10 years later, 2JJJ in Sydney (which employed many ex-Zed staff) began conducting its own Hot 100. Because 4ZZZ held the rights to the name Hot 100, there was a little bit of legal biffo when TripleJ became a national broadcaster, so they changed the name of their survey to the "Hottest 100".
Hits
Ever spent your nights propped against the wall of some dive bar, struggling with another drink, another night of heartbreak, and the slow deflation of your hollow hopes? Ever wished someone could come along and give it all back to you, let you slide back into the rapture of abandon?
Us too. Come nestle your head here, love.
HITS have been playing around Brisbane for a few years now... on and off between disasters, usually of their own making. Very compromising members of some defunct "seminal” (cheers Macka) Brisbane punk bands and some currently fabulous ones as well. Apart from our own shows we've played support to the likes of The Scientists, New Christs, Mustang, the Kelpies, the Dirtbombs, The Drones and Lime Spiders as well some of the best of their city's heavy hitters such as Giants of Science, Sixfthick, Vegas Kings, Lords of Wong, New Jack Rubys, Horrortones, Dangermen etc.
HITS HEART COVERS.
At the 2005 Very Stooges Xmas party Hits played "Funhouse" from start to finish ably assisted by Rockin' Rowly and Sexy Connor Sax. THAT was awesome fun. A "plum" spot at a past Ramone-a-thon saw us play a set of Devo covers to rapt acclaim (WE were rapt).
GET OUT OF TOWN
We've spilt interstate on the odd occasion - In the early days we toured to Sydney to play with the legendary Kelpies and Tiger By The Tail and to Melbourne to be slaughtered by the ridiculously tough and loud Mustang, and swooned by Daddy Long Legs.
2010 is half way through and we've managed to traipse to Melbourne again for a pearler of an evening at Yah Yahs, ably assisted by the Convulsions, Daddy Long Legs and Bitter Sweet Kicks. Flew to Adelaide the next day to be pummeled into submission by Meat Tray, Shit Magnet and the mighty fucking arseholes, the Meatbeaters.
AND, through some religious intervention of the most divine and highest blessing, we have just returned from a mini-tour supporting the New Christs. That tour will live long in our hearts. Brilliant!
LIVING WITH YOU IS KILLING ME
In 2009 we finally did what most real bands do all the time and not usually taking four fucking years to either! After all those years of tease... we finally released the debut album "Living With You Is Killing Me" (which if any of you have dated one of Hits understands to be quite aptly titled). Reviews and that in the blog.
Get down.
Ahem.
The album is also being released on vinyl mid June this year thanks to Mr Andrew Stafford and Merenoise records. Come to the gig for a copy and a cuddle from Evil Dick.
