4ZZZ launched its glorious tradition of counting down listeners' 100 favourite songs on New Year's Day 1977. More than 10 years later, 2JJJ in Sydney (which employed many ex-Zed staff) began conducting its own Hot 100. Because 4ZZZ held the rights to the name Hot 100, there was a little bit of legal biffo when TripleJ became a national broadcaster, so they changed the name of their survey to the "Hottest 100".
Midnight Son and the Crime Scene
Bulletproof bass lines, dirty dark drumming, western panhandle guitar picking and smooth whiskey vocals make these cowboys unforgettable artists. Midnight Son and The Crime Scene combine the infectious traditional side of country music with a modern alternative influence. The Crime Scene has it working a treat, connecting in a big way with audiences around town and also on tour. Midnight Son’s heartfelt lyrics bear his life’s experiences with an unpretentious delivery that echoes honesty portraying the things we all feel.
It was relatively only a short while before they realised the potential to make music together that would be timeless. Currently promoting their first EP “Dig Deep” the band is evolving into a valid part of the Australian musical landscape delivering credible and engaging performances in and around Brisbane.
History: Michael Pearson (Midnight Son), following many years of living in America, returned to Australia with a second hand acoustic guitar and a handful of songs. Having never played in a band before, Michael gave it a go and placed an ad in the local music paper. Wanted: Dead or Alive, the title had read. Country Musicians. The first person to respond was Tim Palmer, a lead guitarist/dobro player with whom he quickly struck a powerful song writing and composing partnership. Soon after, Paul Kostanjsek auditioned for the role of Bassist, captivating audiences with his unstoppable fretless antics. It wasn’t long before Michael met Jerome Power, a beat legend from North Qld, and from here, the lineup for The Crime Scene was set.
Midnight Son and The Crime Scene live and breathe Country Music – If you don't like it… You can kiss our ass.
