Before 4ZZ could start broadcasting in 1975, a transmitter was ordered from the U.S. But after it was lost on the dock in New York, 4ZZ's chief engineer at the time Ross Dannecker built the station's first transmitter.
Some Jerks
Vic and Simon have been playing in bands for many years. In recent times Vic has been in the Aampirellas, the Fondelles, and Kewpie Doll, while Simon has played in Brindle, Le Fricken Hecks, and Kewpie Doll.
After an 18 month break following the demise of Kewpie Doll, Vic and Simon began writing some songs for a new band they wanted to start. It would have itʼs inspiration in the girl groups of the 60ʼs, such as the Ronnettes, and the Shangrilas, but also the 60ʼs garage rock of the 13th floor elevators etc, and there later reincarnations, the Cramps, Blondie, and the Scientists.
With just a few songs and a rough recording under there belt, they set about finding a guitarist to fit that inspiration.
Simon knew a young guitarist called Will, formally of Little Vegas & the Fuzz Parade, but then playing in a new band called Los Heuvos. After attending a Los Heuvos 1am session at the Troubadour, both Vic and Simon were pretty sure Will was the guitarist with the style and sound, to suit the new songs.
The three of them started jamming in May 2010, and in 12 weeks had 10 songs, 2 gigs booked, but no name. Rather than have no name, Will gave the venue the throwaway name Some jerks.
Some jerks played 6 shows, and recorded an Ep, between May & December in 2010, before taking a 3 month break.
The 5 song Ep is now finished, to be released on Turkeyneck Records in August 2011. It was recorded in Brisbane, with the mixing of 2 songs, and the mastering of all 5 songs, done by US legend Kramer (Bongwater, Shockabilly, Pulp Fiction).
Some jerks will embark on recording an Album early in 2012, but hope to sneak out a 7ʼ single before then.
