The Zephyr Project

Energetic roots rock with a rockabilly flair and some serious blues!

The Zephyr Project hails from the highways of South East Queensland performing our own unique flavour of energetic roots rock with a rockabilly flair and some serious blues.

Imagine Gene Krupa, Ray Charles, Jack Bruce and Jim Heath all had a late night jam session – that’s the one WE’d want to be at! Timeless lines with a modern drive-train belting out music you can dance to, music you can sing to, music you can drink to. Hot funk, cool punk even if it’s old junk – it’s still rock and roll to us.

First time you ever listened to 4ZZZ?

Straight after moving to Brisbane in 1995.

First time you were ever played on 4ZZZ?

In 2016 after the recording of our original EP.

First gig you ever played?

Toogoolawah Hotel.

Funniest on-stage f##k up?

After one member reading the set-list wrong we started playing two different songs ...but tied them together beautifully resulting in the world spped record version of 'Folsom Prison' by Johnny Cash. Either that or the time we were nearly thrown out of Pittsworth fore playing too fast and loud...or that time we played to a pitch black paddock all night in Kilcoy, only to have people hidden in the dark complain (and throw stubbies) when we stopped playing and started packing up.

If you could play with one band/muso (dead or alive) in the 4ZZZ carpark who +why?

What a HARD question. We take influecne from SO many places that it's difficult ot name a definite one! So here's one from each member: Ray Charles, Louis Prima, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Motorhead...eclectic enough?

What is the kewlest/ most definitive feature of  your group/ musical project?

That we're all great mates who love to ahve a laugh, not take ourselves too seriously and engage the audience.

If you were to turn out your pockets at the end of a tour, what is the most common thing you would find?

CDs/Merchandise bought from other bands on the tour.

If you/your band/your music took the form of an emoji, which one would it be?

A MkII Ford Zephyr with smoke coming from the tyres and from under the bonnet.
