Today we speak with Sarah Cochrane Ridout, author of Sisters in Arms, which tells the story of how her grandmother, activist Kathie Cochrane, and fellow activist, poet and campaigner Oodgeroo Noonuccal worked tirelessly for the successful 1967 Referendum campaign. Their efforts helped bring about a landmark moment, when Australians voted to amend the Constitution to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Census and enable the Commonwealth Government to make laws for them.
