SEQ's Parvovirus outbreak affecting our pets

Have you ever wondered how a simple vaccine could save your pet from a deadly disease sweeping through Southeast Queensland? The The Animal Welfare League of Queensland (AWLQ) is tackling outbreaks of canine parvovirus and feline panleukopenia in suburbs like Ipswich and South Brisbane, offering free vaccinations to protect our furry friends.

4ZZZ’s Eliot Rifkin spoke with Dr. Sarah, Senior Veterinarian at AWLQ, about how these preventable diseases are affecting our communities and what we can do to help.

  • Brisbane Community Vet Clinic  23 August 2025 (walk-ins for canine parvovirus vaccines)  3808 2892 - 6/10 Old Chatswood Road, Daisy Hill (for eligible residents in postcodes: 4113, 4114, 4076, 4077)




  • Ipswich Community Vet Clinic  16 August 2025 (walk-ins for canine parvovirus; appointments for feline panleukopenia)  3812 7533 - 42 Tiger Street, West Ipswich (for eligible residents in postcodes: 4300, 4301, 4303, 4304, 4305)



These clinics aim to reduce barriers for low-income pet owners and curb the spread of these diseases in Southeast Queensland. Parvovirus symptoms in SEQ and Feline Panleukopenia symptoms.
