Ben Salter w/ Front End Loader & Mexico City @ The Triffid

Mexico City are first to take to the stage and they don't disappoint as they brought their unique brand of laid back blues, dark rock n roll and country inflected Americana to the attentive and appreciative crowd. A true pleasure it was to see them play along with special guests Ben Ely of Regurgitator, Conor Macdonald of The Gin Club and Skye Staniford from We All Want To.

Front End Loader, as always, brought with them a barrage of great tunes, cutting sense of humour and of course great musicianship. Their set began with 4 Star Heritage Arsehole and went on to include The Original and perennial favourite Pulse. Front End Loader powered through their set with little reprieve, Richard taking command if the banter took too long and Pete driving from the back seat with few breaks between songs. Both Bow and Davis' vocals synched beautifully and, always on point, after so many years have not wavered from top quality shows.

Finally Ben Salter takes the stage with his plethora of talented musicians. Roll call of creatives for the evening include, Seja Vogel, Adrian Stoyles of The Gin Club, Clint Hyndman of Something for Kate and Arun Roberts aka Dirt Hand.

The show was seamless, like it was all dipped in dark syrup, and we all glided along together on the dark and ethereal tales of travel, both within and outward. Songs such as The Translator, Mediocre Comedians, Dark Forces and Sleep Stealer, were all executed with such beautiful precision by all involved. It really did feel as though you were driven along in a dream state only to wake up and realise that you were just at the Triffid seeing bands and that you need to go home.
