HousewivesLick The Pip
RIP Society

- Housewives are the kind of band everyone should attempt to create at some point in their lives before they hit 25. You're going to learn a lot about how silly everything generally is, which is important knowledge for dealing with the inevitable downhill years ahead. This is punk rock played with an outstandingly wasted abandon. These are songs with no commercial potential or future or point, and in my mind that makes this debut 7" EP one of the most relevant slabs of wax I've had the pleasure of spinning in my dungeon of doom as of late. As the wider world and humanity in general continues to destroy whatever feelings of hope I have left, it is bands making unaffected music like this that help to restore them.
Housewives have emerged as one of the flagship bands of the current inner-city Sydney, Marrickville music community, with a DIY heritage that is as revered as it is wasted. These four songs perfectly encapsulate what it is to exist in that particular geographical space as an early twenty-something in 2013, eternally drunk and wondering what the hell. Opening tune 'Special Power' is a loose piece of work that will appeal to no one except idiots like me. 'Who Am I?' gets existential as frontman crooner Lincoln Brown asks that very question over a dozen times. 'Lick The Pip' is the highlight track and the one that's going to keep the beer flowing at any worthwhile, disrespectful gathering: a blazing rock song that defines the whole damn thing for me.
I am so grateful that this actually came out, as it sounds like the band would not give a shit either way. Yet another quality release from R.I.P Society, a label that continues to create and define a contemporary rock n' roll culture built on passion, integrity and beer.
