Secret Birds - In Hex

The sounds of In Hex were formed whilst Sydney-based solo act Secret Birds was addressing his mail to Tokyo during last year. Five songs and 43 minutes long, In Hex is a mystical fusion of the organic and digital, creating a soundscape of nocturnal qualities. The night-time transcendence is delivered with cosmically distorted electrics, low resolution loops, warbling drum beats and psychedelic guitar play, which are all chaotically woven together with ordered effect. The track-listing would make a fitting soundtrack to such numinous settings as a planetarium, house-of-mirrors, or a hedonistic initiation ritual. No Kings Records have released In Hex on Cassette Tape as well as the digital format. The punctuating click of a Cassette player at sides’ end would certainly do its part in bringing the listener back to their reality. Ashton Smith
