Before 4ZZ could start broadcasting in 1975, a transmitter was ordered from the U.S. But after it was lost on the dock in New York, 4ZZ's chief engineer at the time Ross Dannecker built the station's first transmitter.

Are you interested in participating in radio training this year? If you volunteer at a community radio station you can complete accredited courses in Cert II in Creative Industries or Cert III Media for no charge* There are also pathways courses in interviewing, audio editing and podcasting. 4ZZZ provides engaging training opportunities for subscribers and community members interested in the media industry.
Announcer Training is only available to current 4ZZZ subscribers and volunteers. If you are interested in hosting a show on 4ZZZ but are not currently volunteering you check out current positions available and register your interest online.
New Announcer Training sessions in April
Announcer Training is only available to current 4ZZZ subscribers and volunteers. This training is mandatory for all potential 4ZZZ announcers. It covers; station history, media law, station policy, paneling and presenting. Training consists of four sessions over two weeks
Dates for the next round:
Session 1 Saturday 13th April 10am - 1pm
Session 2 Sunday 14th April April 10am - 1pm
Session 3 Saturday 27th April 10am - 1pm
Session 4 Sunday 28th April 10am - 1pm
In between sessions 2 and 3 trainees are required to complete in-studio observation sessions.
Cost:
$90 full time waged
$45 for concession.

Community Training Programs
We also offer programs where we can come to you. We've partnered with Brisbane City Council, Youth Arts Queensland, Police Citizen Youth Clubs, The Smith Family, Red Hill Special School and more, to deliver informative and engaging workshops across a broad range of media and visual graphic design arts skill sets. If you think your students or clients would benefit from a workshop with one of 4ZZZ's fantastic staff or volunteers, get in touch.
Station Tours
We offer informative and fun station tours all year round to community groups, schools and colleges. Students are taken on a one-hour tour of our historic Fortitude Valley premises where they observe our announcers live on-air, and explore our extensive music library. 4ZZZ's experienced staff and volunteers share their knowledge of the community radio sector, answer questions from students and advise on career opportunities in the media industry.
