Animal right's groups slam rodeo

The 2010 National Finals Rodeo will be held on the Gold Coast this Thursday, despite concerns over the treatment of animals.

Executive Director of Animals Australia Glenys Oojes, said calf roping is of particular concern.

“Calf roping in Queensland is just terrible,” said Ms Oojes.

“They are pulled up very hard and fast and they fall and they get injured, but most of all it is the fear and terror they feel in rodeos.”

Calf roping is already banned in South Australia and Victoria and Animals Australia are lobbying for Queensland to ban it too.
