Cassowaries a troubled breed in North Queensland

Cyclones and development in North Queensland have reduced the number of Cassowaries to an all time low according to conservationists.

Jennifer Croes from Rainforest Rescue said it is estimated there is fewer than 1,000 that remain in the wild.

She also said one of the major challenges for the cassowary is to survive in a modern world that has less habitats for them to live in.

Rainforest Rescue is launching a public awareness campaign, raising the cassowary’s profile.
