Polish small farmers blockade the country's highways in protest

The farmers have four main demands, including legislation to protect Polish citizens’ ability to own Polish land, change to inheritance laws to include leased land, banning of genetically modified organisms, and relaxation of strict health and safety laws which prevent small scale farmers from selling their food onsite or at local markets. The protests have been going on for a year, but have escalated in the last month, spurred on by the EU ban on exporting to Russia, which has forced down food prices in Poland.
