Ceasefire between Ukraine and pro-Russian rebels

The Ukrainian government and pro-Russian rebels have declared a ceasefire effective since Saturday at midnight local time.

Both sides are saying that the ceasefire is holding, with only some violations in the Luhansk area.

As part of the deal brokered by Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany, both sides have two days to withdraw heavy weapons from the front line.

However, observers from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe have claimed rebels have prevented them from monitoring the truce.

The ceasefire deal is hoped the end the conflict that has seen over 5000 people killed since April last year.
