Unions mark Workers' Memorial Day

Last year 32 people died at their workplaces in Queensland and 185 nationally. So far this year 48 Australians have died at work. Queensland Council of Unions called for changes to laws that require 24 hours’ notice before unions can enter a workplace to inspect a safety breach. In South Australia, Greens senator Tammy Franks will introduce a bill to parliament seeking to create a new offence of “industrial manslaughter” for cases of reckless negligence by employers.
