Redcliffe Crimestoppers campaign ‘Dob in a Dealer’
A new Crimestoppers campaign has been launched in Redcliffe to help deal with growing drug problems.
‘Dob in a Dealer’ was launched at the Redcliffe PCYC last week, where people are encouraged to report anonymously any information that could help police put a stop to those making and dealing drugs.
Deception Bay Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Terry Wyatt said the targeted drug, ice not only affects the person using the drug, but it has a domino effect linked to domestic violence and other crimes.
Perth to trial female friendly parking bays
Australia’s first female-friendly parking bays will be trialled in Perth’s CBD.
The pink bays will be rolled out in Perth’s Pier Street car park for a three month trial with the 28-space area featuring better lighting, and closer access to CCTV cameras and lift wells.
The City Council of Perth spokesman Martin Mileham said the council is trialling the idea to make women feel safer.
Parking bays for women already exist in countries such as Germany, Korea and China.
Truck owners concerned over abolished wage tribunal
A bill will be introduced into Parliament next week to eliminate the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal who currently set minimum pay rates for the trucking industry.
Employment Minister Michaelia Cash said that the Government will support the truck owners and drivers to ensure that their livelihood is not destroyed by the pay rates.
The Senate crossbench are supportive with the elimination of the tribunal and the Federal Government is confident they have the numbers to delay the pay order.
Zika virus confirmed to cause birth defects
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed that the Zika virus causes severe birth defects, including microcephalic.
Hundreds of babies were born in Brazil last year with microcephaly, a syndrome where children are born with unusually small heads.
The defects coincided with a spike in Zika infections, leading experts to suspect the mosquito-borne virus.
