Flow Hive, a honey harvesting system that extracted honey from hives without causing stress to bees, was developed by Stuart Anderson and his son over a period of 10 years. After partnering with design firm Evolve, Flow Hive went through 134 design revisions to maximise its efficiency before the product was distributed across the globe. $16 billion needed to save Great Barrier Reef A Government model has predicted at least 16 billion dollars would be needed to save the Great Barrier Reef. WWF reef spokesman Nick Heath says It’s a bit more than we thought, but it’s absolutely billions not millions that will save the reef, yet we’ve only seen millions from the major parties so far. While the Coalition and Labor Governments combined pledges come to over 400 million dollars, it’s barely scratching the surface of what the national land mark needs to survive. Cortisol levels linker to psychosis Researchers from James Cook University have found a link between cortisol levels and psychosis. The meta-analysis study compared the level of cortisol in a patient’s body with the stage of schizophrenia experienced by the patient. Researchers say findings could help doctors - using cortisol measurement - identify people who are at greatest risk of developing psychosis. Greens plan to increase family reunion visas The Greens have put forward a plan to add 10,000 more places for family reunion visas. Green’s Senator, Sarah Hanson-Young, says the existing family reunion program is not working, with long waiting lists and excessive fees. Ms Hanson-Young says the additional places would get the program back on track, and the Greens will also move for a detailed parliamentary review of the family reunion program after the election. King Tut's dagger made of meteorite Analysis by a team of researchers shows a dagger found in Egyptian King Tutankhamun's tomb was made with iron from a meteorite. This finding confirms the long-held belief among many scientists that the dagger was made from "extraterrestrial iron", because smelted iron was rare during that time in ancient Egypt. Researchers say Egyptians’ knowledge about the origin of iron is reflected in their language, with the Egyptian word for iron translating to "iron from the sky". Amnesty International report finds police brutality in Gambia An Amnesty International report on Gambia has detailed police brutality and arbitrary arrests of peaceful protesters and political figures in the country. The report says over 50 people are waiting for trial, with at least 36 people held without charges. Amnesty International has urged authorities in Gambia to release the prisoners and end police brutalities.
