Fuzz Pop

- Extrafoxx's self-titled album is said to have been many years in the making. By the sound of it I'd reckon it's been on its way since the '90s, a big slab of slacker rock that was just too durn lazy to roll off the couch until now. Frontman Conwae Burrell is an intimate part of this with his going-nowhere slice-of-life lyrics and sadsack delivery. He sounds a bit like Dave McCormack if Dave were a bit more depressed and his jokes were much more oblique; or maybe he justs sounds like Eeyore with a guitar...and a bong; actually, now that I think about it, I can quite easily imagine Eeyore bonging on whenever the cameras were switched off - the things you think of! To deepen the Dave McCormack comparison, when Extrafoxx aren't building walls of noise they can be quite poppy, helped along by the synths which appear on many songs, though given the slacker vibe the synths sound lurid and corrupt. If I could commend you to listen to just one track, I think you'd get the idea perfectly from Burrell's tribute to one of Queensland and Australia's most enduring tourist icons The Big Pineapple. BTW, if you haven't been you should go, Nambour could use your dollar dollar bills 'yo.
