- A.D.D. City the title of Sydney via New York via Adelaide based Fingertips’ breakout EP is also its most accurate descriptor. Inspired by the DJ-by-trade’s temporary stay in restless New York, A.D.D. City draws from Brooklyn’s eclectic scene of bands, producers and rappers to forge a unique mix of aggressively hyperactive, punk-laced electronica and dancehall informed tracks. Co-produced by Dan Walker from fellow accused A.D.D. sufferers The Death Set out of Sydney, the sheer vibrancy and variation of this debut is barely surprising.

Opening track and single release Troublemaker is a classic diss track: targeting those out there with ancient views on gender and ethnicity in the rap game and its acid-tongued raps are difficult to ignore, paired with a demanding, tribal, dancehall beat which halts only when Fingertips declares “We don’t care what you do / We don’t care what you say / We just gone walk right past and ain’t looking back that way” over a singular tribal drum beat. All of this aural craziness is rounded out with the snarls of NineLives The Cat, an Australian rapper based in NYC who pops up in the second verse to assault haters with his bratty quips. It’s easy to compare the biology of the song’s make up to M.I.A.

Play Nice brings to mind the best of Santigold with its droning, electronic beat and continual, sassy motif: “You don’t know who you’re messing with so you better play nice”. In this track it becomes apparent that Fingertips is a force to be reckoned with: not only can the girl rap with a conviction that’s so self-assured it’s almost alarming but she can sing too, with flawless tone. We get another taste of her vocal prowess on the slinky and seductive Strung Out in which a wobbly dub beat is paired with Goldfrapp-esque falsetto; its beat crackles with a sadistic riff pulsating throughout. Fingertips says that during this song she was at her most vulnerable, out of her usual rapping comfort zone, but you’d be hard pressed to find evidence of this in the final product.

On No Game Fingertips and Ninjasonik rap about hopeless lovers, ranging from an unmemorable fella to a batshit crazy girlfriend with a coke habit. The EP finishes with a homage to the sleepless NY which Fingertips called home for a period. It’s a ferocious club banger in something of the style of Charlie XCX. It's only the tiniest downer to end on something less memorable and unique than the rest of A.D.D. City. This is an EP that’s bursting with energy and potential.
