The LevitatorsEclectica

Eclectica? Interesting. Definition of Eclectic: “Deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.” Yep, that best sums up this album by Adelaide group The Levitators.

If I had to define the genre of music on the album I would say Rock/ Electric/ Funk/ Reggae/ every other sound that has ever existed. It's not that they mix the genres too much, it's that every song sounds like it's from a different album. I feel like it was written and created by a group with amnesia and multiple personality disorder. They set their minds on one style of music that they want to do, promptly forget it, then another personality takes over and they set their mind on a different style. They are very talented musicians but they might want to either flip a coin or see a doctor.

You can immediately tell from the front cover that this will be an interesting mix of genres. The cover art depicts a mirror image of an overpass, covered by a bird, inside a circle, in the middle of a sun on top of a opaque moon. This would all be very weird, until you listen to the album, and find that the art on the cover isn't the oddest mix of things that you have come across today.

In saying that I have to say that the songs were good. They were easy to listen to and kept you guessing about which direction you were going next. Say what you will about the eclectic nature of the songs, but the band sure knows how to aptly title their album.
