Live Review
Dragonforce @ The Triffid
Brisband Chronolyth open up the show tonight and played a short set to a very good reception - Dragonforce gave them big ups for their set and enthusiasm.
Guitarists Sam Totman and Herman Li formed Dragonforce in 1999. The line up has had a few changes and with Chinese Li, French bass player Frederic Leclercq, an Italian drummer, Totman spending time in NZ and an English singer it truly is the United Nations of Power Metal. Tonight Dragonforce is in Brisbane as part of their “Reaching into Infinity” world tour. I saw them 2 years ago at a Soundwave and couldn’t wait to see them again.
Totman and Li continually roam the stage, play games and rip off one amazing melodic solo after another . The sound is perfect and the band is very tight. The frequent twin lead guitars add yet another dimension to Dragonforce and keeps them at the top of the Power Metal Genre. Both guitaritsts are frequent double tappers adding another dimension to their music. The bass player Frederic came on and played an insane guitar solo – go figure ?
They rip through 14 tracks and play just under 2 hours – Reaching into Infinity, Ashes of the Dawn, Operation Ground and Pound , Seasons , Judgement Day, Heroes of our Time, Curse of Darkness, Three hammers, Fury of the Storm, - a brilliant version of Edge of The World , Cry Thunder – and two encores - Valley of the Damned and Through the Fire and Flames. Singer Marc Hudson sculled a whole beer for the crowd and one punter got on stage for a “ shoey” ( drinking a whole beer out of a shoe). A wild drums solo and bits of jazz music and country music added to the mayhem. All 5 band members sang and added strong melodic backing vocals to Marc’s Lead vocals – this is one of the tightest bands I have ever seen. AWESOME !!! looking forward to their return. Herman Li – you are the Buddha guitarist of metal
