The Royal Ballet with The Winter’s Tale
Christopher Wheeldon’s stunning adaptation of Shakespeare’s play, The Winter’s Tale, into an expressive and passionate ballet wowed the audience with its effective uses of movement, props and costume to bring this production to life. The choreography, also by Wheeldon, successfully showcased the characters’ emotions throughout, giving the characters a personality and an insight into their feelings without the use of words.
It was a flawless performance by The Royal Ballet. All the dancers were in sync and performed every step purposefully and gracefully. I particularly enjoyed the second acts festival scene, where the dancers performed a jolly village scene together with amazing lifts and turns, brought to life by their beautifully vibrant costumes. I loved this performance with dark, happy and comedic elements that were all represented exceptionally through dance, movement and the use of props with stunning sets and costumes.
