Mercury Rising
The title says it all. Freddie Mercury – The Definitive Biography. And it’s hard to disagree.
A respected music journalist in her own right Jones became a friend to Mercury in the 1980s, following them around the world on tour.
In Freddie Mercury – The Definitive Biography, it’s evident that Jones has done her homework, taking the time to thoroughly investigate her subject, all the way back to his childhood in Zanzibar and India.
Featuring in-depth interviews and uniquely personal accounts of her time with Mercury there is information in this biography that confirms, contradicts and builds on what we know about the glam-rocker.
Music fans will appreciate Jones’ take on Queen’s infamous Live Aid performance which saw the band crowned the greatest live act in history, and also saw the beginning of the end as the group slowly grew apart.
Told from the point of view of the author, like unwrapping a lolly, the life and times of Freddie Mercury is unearthed one page at a time and the experience is uplifting positive, even through the darker parts that detail the lead up to his death from Aids.
With so many tomes about Freddie Mercury proceeding this one, it really means something to say that this one is by far the best.
Factual, insightful, well researched and written, this is one music biography that demands respect.
