Flume - May 7th 2013

It would be difficult to find a young person in Australia who has not yet heard of Flume; hailing from Sydney the young producer's popularity has spread like wildfire. Selling out his first headline tour with his friend Chet Faker, who made an appearance in his debut album - Flume saw to it that his Infinity Prism tour would be something special.

The sell out crowd flooded the gates at the Riverstage ready for a night of dancing, screaming, jumping, and all round fun. This buzzing energy welcomed Chet Faker onto stage ready for the night to begin. Chet has one of the most unique voices in Australia at the moment with his old-school vibe. His out-of-sync style to that of Flume's, Chet managed to hold the audience for his set and make him self known to the somewhat 10,000 crowd. Playing his classics, Terms and Conditions, Chocolates and Cigarettes, No Diggity , who have gained well over 3 million view on YouTube in total. At the ending of his 45 minute set, Chet thanked the crowd for their love.

After a 30 minute interlude and several warnings from security threatening to cancel the show if the crowd did not settle down, Flume walked on stage. It felt like it was a well earned wait when the young producer stepped up on his stand and waved to the crowd - everyone knew we were in for a good night. Opening with his remix of A Baru In New York which features Aboriginal legend Gurrumul. This song demonstrated the lighting display which was ahead of us, and boy did it look good. It was as if their was more movement on the stage than the dancefloor. Flume sure wanted this to be something special.

From wobbling bass, glitch-hop, and chill-wave, it all featured in his set. The popular Sleepless made a welcomed early appearance as did Ezra, and Space Cadet. The electric tunes and electric atmosphere made the crowd go wild and release all their energy which had been building up for hours, weeks, or months, everyone was moving.

Flume played his fresh remixes of Get Free and Ta-Ku's - Higher even managing to play some Notorious B.I.G lyrics over the top, Flume had something for everyone.

The set began to round up but the crowd wanted more, screaming for an encore which Flume delivered, and delivered well. First playing two tracks with Chet, Left Alone and their 'unreleased' song that they worked on when spending time together. The musical chemistry these two artists share is something special which Australia have grown to love and the world still to discover.

Near the end of the night the suspense waiting for Flume's monster remix of HyperParadise was lifted. For me, the highlight of the night was this song. The whole build up, lighting spectacular, crowd, and just everyone letting loose was something that i will not forget. The way no one in the crowd held back and everyone had their own way of dancing, either way, no one was stationary.

It will not be hard to find someone who went to this concert who wants to relive it, or to find someone who wish they went. This was one hell of a night, and Flume will definitely be welcomed back to Brisbane when he returns.
